Colonial Singers

The West Potomac High School Colonial Singers is a select ensemble of 14 students in grades 10 thru 12. Dressed in authentic 18th century American clothing, they perform a unique "living history" program of music and dance. Their program includes American and European folk songs, early American hymns, spirituals, liberty songs, and English country dances. Each singer also portrays an 18th century teenager, sharing aspects of daily life of the 1770's.
The Colonial Singers are in great demand in the Washington DC area. They annually perform at George Washington's Mt. Vernon, Gadsby's Tavern Museum (as part of the Alexandria Candlelight tour in December), and Gunston Hall Plantation. They have also been invited each year to perform at Bruton Parish in Historic Williamsburg, as well as First Night Williamsburg. In 2009 they were selected by the City Choir of Washington to be guest artists for the choir's Christmas Concert at National Presbyterian Church in Washington DC. In addition, they present their historical program to children in elementary schools throughout Fairfax County. They have also performed in the White House for the holiday tours, and by invitation at the Virginia Music Educators' state conference in Norfolk VA.
